With Grave Consequences

A dead teenager.

A dying mother.

A missing baby.

DI Mandy Wilde and her team have a mystery to solve.

With her pregnant twin sister, Joy, back in Cardiff the tension isn’t all work based. Life has become more complicated.

Progress on the case is slow and Mandy is worried. She’s lumbered with a detective from another team who has a grudge against her.

Can things get worse? Of course they can. The return of her ex fiancé, now a DCI, doesn’t help. She needs to prove she can solve the case, despite the odds.

The Suspects

Who is CR?

Grace Mathias was seeing someone with the initials CR. Mandy and her team have four suspects, but can they find out how they are connected to the dead girl?

Caradog Roberts

Caradog donated to Grace’s GoFundMe page on a regular basis but he’s a very old man and in a residential home. He is an unlikely suspect and Olivia visits him to find out what his connection is to the Mathias family.

Christopher Robin

Mr Robin was Grace’s teacher when she was in primary school. There are photographs of him at events and he has supported Grace’s endeavours even though it is years since he taught her. Is there an ulterior motive behind this endorsement of her fundraising? He seems contented with his life and his husband but Mandy wonders if there is another reason why he is connected to Grace.

Gwyn Roper

Although his initials are GR, not CR, he falls under suspicion because of his close involvement with Grace’s fundraising. He sits on the city council so the team think Grace could have thought of him as Councillor Roper. He refuses to speak to them at first arousing much suspicion. What is he hiding?

Callum Rosser

The double-glazing company that Callum owns paid substantial amounts to the GoFundMe page. He offered a new composite door, fully fitted, as a prize for one of the events. He also donates large sums on a regular basis. A guilty conscience or some other reason for such generosity?

DI Mandy Wilde and DS Josh Jones are called to a suspicious death in a cemetery of a young girl, lying amongst the trees. This sets off a chain of events that will keep you reading to the very end. This book has plenty of twists and turns with a few red herrings thrown in. It is roller coaster of a read with well thought out characters and the locations are very well described. The ending was a surprise for me. Bring on book 4 is all I have left to say!!
Love DI Mandy’s Wilde and her team, such good characters. Read the book in a couple of days, full of intrigue and surprises. The description of the local area made it special for me. Would highly recommend it. A great read.

Amazon Review
This is the second book by Jacqueline Harrett that I have read and enjoyed it every bit as much as the first. I am a great fan of Detective Inspector Mandy Wilde – every police force should have someone like her! Really highly recommended.
With Grave Consequences captures your interest from the first page. As in previous books of the series, Mandy's team are great characters and her family situation absorbing. This case is quite heartbreaking and tenderly told. Wholeheartedly recommend. A great read. Roll on #4.
